JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2024 - Check Age Limits, Aggregate Marks & Number of Attempts

NTA(National Testing Agency) released the JEE Main 2024 eligibility criteria on their official website at www.nta.ac.in on November 1st, 2023.  The criteria are mostly the same for both January and April 2024 sessions. Candidates can check the details like educational qualification, JEE age limit, nationality, marks required, compulsory subjects, and more in the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2024. Candidates who appeared for Class 12th/equivalent in 2022 or 23 are eligible for JEE Main 2024 with a minimum aggregate of 75% for general (65% for SC/ST). No age limit is required for JEE main appearing candidates. However, the attempt limit is set for three consecutive years. Aspirants appearing in JEE Main exam will be disqualified if found ineligible as per the specified criteria. Every applicant must fulfill the essential JEE Main eligibility criteria 2024 requirements to be accepted into universities that accept the NTA JEE Main scorecard. In 2024, the exam will be conducted twice. The exam will be held in January and April. Registration closed on 30th November.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs:

Institutes like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs set their eligibility criteria for admission, not NTA. NTA's eligibility criteria are only for taking the JEE Main exam. To secure admission in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must attain a minimum of 75% marks in Class 12. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum of 60% marks is required. However, states like Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), Madhya Pradesh (M.P.), and Bihar, which consider JEE Main scores for BTech admissions, have lower Class 12 marks criteria.

Qualifying Exam List for JEE Main:

1.    Final exam of the 10+2 system from authorized Central or State Boards.
2.    Intermediate or two-year Pre-University test from an accredited university or board.
3.    Final exam for the National Defence Academy’s two-year Joint Services Wing course.
4.    Examination for senior secondary schooling with at least five subjects by the National Institute of Open Schooling.
5.    Public school, board, or university exams recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to the 10+2 system.
6.    Vocational Examination for Higher Secondary Certificate.
7.    Three-year minimum diploma from a State Board of Technical Education or an AICTE-recognized course.
8.    Advanced (A) level General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka).
9.    International Baccalaureate Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office in Geneva or Cambridge University High School Certificate Examination.
10.    Certificate from AIU stating equivalence for Class 12 Examination if passed outside India or from an unlisted board.
11.    Passing at least one previous public examination (Board or Pre-University) if the Class 12 Exam is not a public exam.

Subject Combinations for Admission through JEE Main 2024:

To get into it, GFTIs, and NITs, candidates need to pass the qualifying exam.
1.    For B.Tech/B.E: Mandatory subjects are Physics and Maths, along with Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subjects.
2.    For B.Arch: The subjects required are Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
3.    For B.Planning: Qualifying exam must include Maths.

JEE Main Eligibility for Repeaters:

1.    No age limit is imposed by NTA.
2.    Passed Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying exam is required.
3.    Achieve a minimum of 75% marks in the Class 12 board exam.
4.    Qualifying exam must include 5 subjects, with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory.
All engineering aspirants must meet the JEE Main eligibility criteria for repeaters and Class 12 candidates. Additionally, JEE Main serves as an eligibility test for those aiming to take JEE Advanced. The top 2,50,000 qualifying candidates from the Main exam are eligible for the Advanced exam.
